Today's version is all about listern myths.  I get SO MANY questions, that I can't help but answer them.  Here's some of the most recent questions people submitted on Facebook.

If you've got a myth or rumor you want me to find the REAL answer to, just email it to me:  sid@925kissfm.com OR send me a Facebook message.  Facebook/sidradio.

MYTH:  Melaina Krupp Can deli meat really cause a miscarriage if it isn't heated up?

TRUE

As with soft cheeses, there's a small risk that harmful listeria bacteria may lurk in fresh-from-the-deli-counter meats like turkey and ham. Dr. Morse also advises steering clear of whole, cooked rotisserie chickens and turkey breasts if they're being stored in a refrigerated case. Listeria can survive cold temps, which means there's still an off-chance they could make you sick; however, chicken that has been recently cooked and is still under the warmer is fine.

Bottom line: Avoid deli meat straight from the counter, but you can eat it heated up. If the meat is steaming or feels fully warmed through, it's safe (the heat will kill any harmful bacteria). Granted, the idea of nuked ham slices seems pretty gross. But think of it this way: panini! And if you're really in the mood for a turkey sandwich, you can indulge occasionally with sealed, pre-packaged cold cuts from the grocery store refrigerated section. They're generally considered safer because there's less handling -- and potential germ spreading -- involved.

Continuing with what not to eat when pregnant, you should seriously avoid all forms of raw meat at any cost. This also includes foods such as seafood and poultry because they can contain forms of salmonella that is a very harmful bacteria that you want to avoid altogether. So please make sure that all of the meat you eat is thoroughly cooked to avoid salmonella, toxoplasmosis or coliform bacteria.

MYTH:  Rose Ann Witt Will meal worms really chew a hole in a reptiles(bearded dragon or gecko) stomach if you do not smash the meal worm's head before feeding it to the rep?

UNCONFIRMED

I was able to find articles that claim your reptile can get impacted, but there haven’t been any legitimate studies to prove this statement.  Here’s the sources I went to...again, none of them scientific.

MYTH:  Garrett Dunn My wife is due this Friday. And her and I both have heard that sex before her due date helps get the baby out sooner. But her mom said having sex is the worst thing you can do. So does having sex help help her go into labor?

TRUE

Garret/ aka Uncle Fester: Tonya is right. Bang away. Your weiner is too little to cause damage. Lol.

The theory is that an orgasm (from her if you can hold out that long minute-man) could release hormones that cause contractions that move things along.

Is it OK to have sex during pregnancy?

As long as your pregnancy is proceeding normally, you can have sex as often as you like — but you might not always want to.

At first, hormonal fluctuations, fatigue and nausea might sap your sexual desire. As your pregnancy progresses, weight gain, back pain and other symptoms might further dampen your enthusiasm for sex.

Your emotions might take a toll on your sex drive, too.

Can sex during pregnancy cause a miscarriage?

Although many couples worry that sex during pregnancy will cause a miscarriage, sex isn't generally a concern. Early miscarriages are usually related to chromosomal abnormalities or other problems in the developing baby — not to anything you do or don't do.

MYTH: Jackie Webb Does cracking your knuckles cause arthritis

FALSE

ANSWER: False. Depending on your point of view, knuckle-popping sounds disgusting or cool. There is no evidence that cracking your knuckles inflames the joints and leads to arthritis. The cracking causes the bones to pull apart, forming a gas bubble and breaking the adhesive seal in the joint. Crack! About a quarter of the people in the U.S. crack their knuckles and might begin to lose their grip a little. Constant cracking can weaken the fingers.
